New Star hires three fund managers

07.04.2008

New Star is delighted to announce the appointment of two UK equity fund managers, Charles Deptford and Trevor Green, who will be joining New Star at the end of June 2008. Charles joins New Star from Baring Asset Management, where he recently managed the Baring Equity Income Fund and the Baring UK Growth Fund. Trevor joins New Star from RCM (UK), where he was manager of the RCM UK Growth Fund, the RCM UK High Alpha Fund and the RCM UK Mid-Cap Fund.

These appointments follow John Duffield's commitment to strengthen New Star's UK equity team. Charles and Trevor will work closely with Stephen Whittaker, manager of the New Star UK Growth Fund and New Star Equity Income Unit Trust, and Toby Thompson, manager of the New Star Higher Income Fund.

In addition to Charles and Trevor's appointments, New Star is delighted to announce that David Cornell recently joined New Star's eight-strong emerging markets team. David, who has more than 12 years' experience of emerging markets management, joined New Star on 1 April 2008 from BDT Investment Management and reports to Ian Beattie, joint head of emerging markets at New Star. Initially, David will be taking the lead on Central and Eastern Europe and will lend his considerable experience of broader emerging markets to the team.

John Duffield, chairman of New Star Asset Management, says:

"I have made no secret that changes would be made to strengthen New Star's UK equity desk and I am delighted to announce the appointment of Charles Deptford and Trevor Green. I am in no doubt that their considerable experience and strong track records will benefit the UK team and our investors.

"I am equally delighted to welcome David Cornell to New Star. David's appointment adds considerable resource to our emerging markets team and he will play an integral role alongside Ian Beattie and Brian Coffey in the continued expansion of New Star's emerging markets business."
