New Star recruits Stephen Yiu for top-performin...
New Star is delighted to announce that Stephen Yiu will be joining the UK equity team later this summer to work alongside Tim Steer, manager of the top-performing New Star UK Alpha Fund and the New Star UK Gemini Hedge Fund. Under Tim's management, the New Star UK Alpha Fund has gained 123.54% compared to a 65.34% rise in the IMA UK All Companies Sector*. Over this period the New Star UK Alpha Fund is in the top decile of its sector, ranked 19th out of 223 funds*.
Stephen, who joins New Star from Hargreaves Lansdown, has more than five years' investment experience in research analysis and fund management. He was previously jointly responsible for £525 million worth of funds at Hargreaves Lansdown.
Stephen employs a proprietary quantitative system when managing funds. This provides a detailed level of analysis across a broad range of UK stocks. At New Star, Stephen's quantitative investment process will complement Tim Steer's renowned stock-picking approach and focus on the analysis of companies' accounts.
Coupled with this, Stephen's quantitative system will provide increased resource and a greater level of analytical focus for the New Star UK Gemini Hedge Fund.
Stephen's arrival will enable Tim to extend the scope of the New Star UK Alpha Fund and New Star UK Gemini Hedge Fund as they increase in size. It will also help maintain the funds' continued strong performance*.
